Exquisite by Sarah Stovell
The Blurb
Bo Luxton has it all - a loving family, a beautiful home in the Lake District, and a clutch of bestselling books to her name. Enter Alice Dark, an aspiring writer who is drifting through life, with a series of dead-end jobs and a freeloading boyfriend. When they meet at a writers' retreat, the chemistry is instant, and a sinister relationship develops ... Or does it? Breathlessly pacey, taut and terrifying, Exquisite is a startlingly original and unbalancing psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very last page.
My Review
Like it's title this superb novel was 'Exquisite.' It was exquisitely crafted, exquisitely plotted, exquisitely characterised and exquisitely set in the beautiful landscape of the Lake District. So many questions were generated in my mind as I turned the pages. It was the story of a love affair between two women that ended badly. Who was the perpetuator and who was the victim. Written in such a way from the viewpoint of each of them and sometimes from the retrospective viewpoint of someone in prison. The story was strong and delicate at the same time. I haven't read a book quite like this, and it would have passed me by without a recommendation. Now I'm recommending this as a must read for 2017 for devotees of psychological thrillers.
