About Claire Seeber

Claire Seeber is a Londoner who started professional life as a (bad) actress and became a documentary maker, a journalist and a writer of, so far, psychological thrillers. The Observer said of her first novel: 'a disturbing debut' whilst The Guardian called it 'powerful'...she keeps writing whilst also studying psychology and (trying to) to manage a home of slightly feral kids and animals. Luckily she's got a very nice partner to help too.

My Review

This was another one that I Whispersynced, so it's been a big part of the last few days for me. Laurie escapes a hotel fire that kills her best friend and hotel roommate Emily, who she believes has been murdered in error by her estranged husband who she believes intended to kill her. The news announces that she, Laurie, is dead. She figures it will be 24 hours before her husband finds out that she is still alive, twenty-four hours to get her and her daughter Polly to safety. The story is divided into 'now' and 'then' alternating chapters, both of which are compelling in their own right. The term psychological thriller is so often a loosely branded to questionable fiction with overlapping sub-genres that doesn't have a lot of surprise, anticipation and anxiety. I'm happy to say, 24 Hours fits the genre perfectly. I alternated between quiet reading sessions and Whispersynced audio in the car during my commute. The audio narration was superbly performed by Karen Cass.
